It's to help deter flakes spammers scammers and idiots. If you show a genuine interest in the community you theoretically won't be a d-bag to a fellow member. Post count is the only viable way. It's good for the community. You can always sell on craigslist or eBay.

Ehh I have 457 posts and been here since jan 18th I still dont have access,not that I need it really
