install windows 8.1 and update, or download windows 10 from the Microsoft website and install

A VM program like Parallels will run Windows 7. I prefer Parallels to Bootcamp, never used Any other VM program.

You could always purchase Windows 7, it's still on sale in the UK for £67 and $89 in the States.
Install it via Bootcamp, register it then you get the update to Win 10, and Win 11, Win 12 etc, for free.
