I haven’t done this in a while, but just today I tried to make a contact’s emails a VIP and found it no longer works. I don’t know if this is new to iOS 26 or was killed in a previous iOS release. I have a VIP mailbox, and when tapping on that and tapping add to list, my contact’s list appears, but tapping a contact just makes the list disappear with nothing added to VIP. In a message from that sender, tapping on the “From” name does not show a VIP option in the subsequent menu list. Does this still work for anyone?

Still working for me, but when I tried just now to add a VIP using a contact that doesn't have an email address it behaved like you described.

You’re right. The one I was trying to add did not have an email address in the contacts card I had for it. Adding the address allowed me to tap on VIP mailbox and add it from there. However experimenting with this, even if I have the sender’s address in contacts, tapping on the contacts sender name in a message no longer shows an option to add to VIP. You can only do it by tapping on the VIP mailbox itself and choosing “add.”
