or just the most horribly made one? A mattress store aired a commercial for its 9/11 sale. The owner's daughter was the star of the spot and she was joined by two salesmen who did a bit about how all their mattresses would be priced as a twin. It then gets worse with an ending you have to see to believe. "Never forget", the owner's daughter says at the end. From the facebook comments on the store's page, a lot of people are doing just that. The store closed for a day due to death threats.

    Here's the spot:

and here's an interview with the star:

The most offensive commercial ever is a pretty high bar to clear. But that one certainly comes close.

Is it too soon? Will it ever not be too soon to try and cash in on 9/11? I hope not. But I just realized that by writing the words "too soon" often enough they start to look like gibberish to me.

    Meh, who cares.

Being offended is a personal problem like diharrea. Just like nobody wants to hear about your diharrea problems, nobody wants to hear crying about being "offended".

Our society has become a bunch of spineless pansies.

A classless and tasteless ad for sure, but it doesn't warrant death threats.

I don't think its about the too soon to cash in, its the crashing into the mattress towers at the end that got most people worked up.

I won't disagree with you about people being constantly offended but I also think that pointing that out or saying "well, I'm not politically correct" is a cop out. Some things are in bad taste. I don't think anyone should threaten this woman with death, but pointing out that this is a pretty disgusting commercial is perfectly fine.

Not the first time a mattress store has used offensive ads:

And here's the thing: I watched that segment, and ended up feeling just a little bit of sympathy for that woman.

One of the things I love about this country? It's OK to be an idiot. I'll confess that I wonder, quite seriously, how anyone could claim that selling mattresses was, in any way, "making miracles happen." But then that's just me.

I'm a little concerned , regardless of how tasteless and offensive an advertisement might be, that people working at that store have received death threats. That bothers me far more than the stupidity of the idea behind the Twin Towers sale.

I hate to spoil the party, but "Gary's Mattress" was part of a Funny Or Die bit. IOW, it didn't actually exist. Any more than a business is located at "City, State, USA"

Speaking as a New Yorker I wouldn't call it offensive just stupid.

Personally I loved it. But then I've always enjoyed pushing the envelope of good taste.

    Local commercials are the best.
