I am getting one for Christmas, and have a few questions for people that have one or the 1st Gen.

1. How do you like it? :D

2. How does the internet work? IE: Can you go on this message board for example using the WI-FI internet?

3. How does the email work on it?

4. What are your pros/cons on it?

5. What is "Jail Break" I hear people talking about???

Great product!

2. How does the internet work? IE: Can you go on this message board for example using the WI-FI internet?
I use mine on this message board and others without a problem

3. How does the email work on it?
You set up an account that is supported and in comes your mail.

4. What are your pros/cons on it?
Many pros/cons would be mine has no speaker but yours will.

5. What is "Jail Break" I hear people talking about???
Many threads on this to view what and how.

yes, i posted a number of times.

3. How does the email work on it?
you can either go the browser route, or use the mail icon. (gmail, yahoo, moible me, etc.

4. What are your pros/cons on it?
only con i see is the speaker is 'so-so' other than that all pros

5. What is "Jail Break" I hear people talking about???

i think it deals with ipod's touch 1G

Itouch 2 Gen

I own the ipod Touch 2 Gen so I could probably help you out a bit :)

1. How do you like it?
Love it, definitely a great toy to have around, so worth it!

2. How does the internet work? IE: Can you go on this message board for example using the WI-FI internet?
The wifi is great, pretty quick, about the speed of a normal laptop.

3. How does the email work on it?
You have an app called "mail" that you choose you email, yahoo, msn, etc. Then you enter your email address and password, and it sets up an easy to use setup that allows you to view, delete, and browse new and old emails.

4. What are your pros/cons on it?
Pros:

Wifi
Apps from the new App Store :apple:
Holds music and videos that are easy to find.
Calendar
Speaker
Holds your Contacts
Holds all your photos
Itunes online music store
New sleek design to impress your friends/coworkers/grandparents :p
all the great apps i cannot express enough! Like:

Tap Tap Revenge
Super Monkey Ball
Photo Editor
Games that use the accelerometer
Virtual Pianos, and other instruments

Cons:

You have to be careful not the brag about it to much lol

5. What is "Jail Break" I hear people talking about???

This is an intresting topic that i know very much about, but as of now the 2 Gen ipod touch cannot be jailbroken, only the First Gen can. now jailbreaking is a way of downgrading the software to version 1.1.1 on the ipod touch and downloading a freeware off of the internet and bieng able to use third party applications, using an app named installer, to download other apps that do interesting things (this was before the app store.)

Wow, thanks for the great response! Can't really think of any more questions besides... What are some good earphones to buy that are comfortable and cheap that will stay in your ear good if you are running?
 
Just to clarify, jailbreaking doesn't bring you down to firmware 1.1, you still have the latest and greatest. Your just able to download applications that apple doesn't allow in the appstore, such as more ways to customize your ipod. But it's not currently possible to jailbreak the second generation ipod touch.

here's what i think about it, i have the 1st gen. and had it for almost a year now

1. How do you like it?
i love it, i use more than any other electronic device i have. what i like most is that it never gets old (for me anyways)

2. How does the internet work? IE: Can you go on this message board for example using the WI-FI internet?
Wi-Fi is great. you can go on virtually any website. there are some restrictions like flash and whatnot but it's still pretty amazing for a device so small

3. How does the email work on it?
the email is from a built in email app and it's simple to use and simple to set-up if you don't have push email then it looks for new emails every 15, 30, or 60 minutes depending on what you set it to. if you have push email then it automatically gets your new emails whenever they are sent but this kills your battery life a lot.

4. What are your pros/cons on it?
pros:
out of all the time i've had it i've never gotten bored with it.
games from big game developers right from the app store.
the app store.
the Wi-Fi iTunes music store.
internet.
maps.
youtube.

cons:
if you have push email then it drains your battery so fast.
sometimes it freezes up or won't even turn on and you have to reset it
sometimes it really screws up and you have to restore it (this is rare)


5. What is "Jail Break" I hear people talking about???
jailbreaking is basically a firmware that lets you be able to get applications that do what apple doesn't want you to do. for example putting themes on your ipod, etc. i have jailbroken my ipod before but i didn't like it and it caused me to restore my ipod too many times and i've only had to restore once on regular firmware.
 
You should watch the iPod touch guided tour. It will answer most of your questions. Also, watch the iPhone's guided tour as the iPod touch and iPhone share the same features (minus the phone). While the iPod touch guided tour spotlights the new features like the App Store, the iPhone guided tour covers the basics like web browsing and e-mail. Check them out:

Does anyone know how to delete photos from your iPod touch 2nd generation that you download from your computer?
