The Scottish Cabinet has been discussing whether to proceed with implementing marriage equality in the country at their weekly meeting today in Edinburgh. With broad cross party support in the Holyrood Parliament any drafted bill is likely to easily pass, so should the SNP administration decide to proceed Scotland could have full equal marriage by the end of this year. Recent polls also suggest a wide majority of Scots want to equalise the marriage legislation. The country currently has Civil Partnerships for lesbian and gay couples as with the rest of the UK.

Press conference has been called for 4pm local time.

No decision today after all. Which means they've now delayed from committing 4 times. All I can say is, whoever is threatening to resign needs to be kicked out as soon as possible

I surmise that, on the surface, many are for it, but underneath some are not.

I believe that's called cowardness. Or political "expediency".

The rumour is that there are some SNP financial backers that aren't too happy, so Salmond and co. are working out how to proceed without upsetting the fundie millionaires who think the world should follow their belief systems.

Personally I'd be happy if Brian Souter sorted out his crappy excuse for a railway.

Not that I'm implying there to be any connection between the two paragraphs above.

Cardinal O'Brian has come up with a Church fundraiser to raise money to campaign against gay marriage in Scotland. He's looking to hit 100k.

Would buy a lot of condoms.

Well at least they didn't go down the referendum route today, feeling that would have been a disaster..

O'Brien is only making himself look like a right nasty piece of work. There's an Irish style backlash against the Vatican brewing in Scotland thanks to their opposition on this issue. He's so blind he can't see it coming.

People are finding it harder to identify themselves with some of the stuff these nuts come out with. Hopefully the damage done by the child rapes in Ireland will be irreversible for the Holy Ones.

I personally think gays shouldn't have to pay full taxes if they aren't treated like full citizens.

I bet if that rule was in place we'd see a lot less of this "marriage is for straight people only" BS.

Oh, they'd twist it some way. We wouldn't just be "dirty homosexuals", we'd become "dirty freeloading homosexuals". Some people will always hate us, whatever happens. I'm quite resigned to that.

Still, it would be interesting how many people would suddenly "come out" and watching the backlash of this second-citizen rule forcing bigots to rethink their values. If at all, it would be amusing.

But dominoes are black and white. Americans like things presented to them in this way.

Oh, BTW, if that is you in your avatar, very strong!!!! ❤

Even our good neighbor, Canada, has boldly stepped forward and legalized this equality. I also don't believe there are any Chick-fil-a restaurants in Canada (thankfully).

Once it's introduced in Scotland the rest of the UK will move very quickly on the issue.

I reckon it'll be before then. Beware what the Telegraph reports on this issue. They've declared themselves in the anti-equality camp, so there's always a slant against progress in their articles and editorials.

The government use 2015 to indicate it'll happen before the next election.

Splendid news, and hopefully the rest of the UK will follow suit sooner rather than later.

Queso – we'll make an honest man out of you yet. ;)
