it's the middle of the day and we don't have a "predict the results" thread for the New Hampshire primary???

    In any event the first results are in from the voters Dixville Notch;

Anybody offering predictions for the final results?

Myself, I'm pretty sure Trump will ultimately end up with more votes than Kasich before this is over ;)

Sanders will win, although probably narrowly enough that the media will be able to say he is in trouble and make it out as a win for Clinton.

For the Republicans, I think Trump will have a victory, but also will underperform the polls. I hope that Kasich will come out a clear second and give Rubio a good challenge for the establishment's choice, but realistically I think everyone will be pretty close together after Trump, and this primary won't do a lot to narrow the field.

Yeh. I keep telling myself don't worry it's just the primaries it's just the primaries it's just.... . a nightmare.

Alternatively I tell myself it's just entertainment, stock up on popcorn. That might work through February or so.

I wonder if New Brunswick would take me in. I'm ready to go!

That may be true. But Americans cannot just go and take up residency in the UK whenever they feel like it. The standard tourist Visa is valid for six months. If you plan on staying longer than that, and you don't have a return airline ticket - you might run into some problems at the airport.

The immigration officers at Heathrow are uniformly polite and welcoming (at least in my experience) - but they do take a close look at people's travel documents. They want to know how long you plan on staying in Britain. And if they have a reasonable belief that a person from outside the EU is planning on overstaying - they can and do hold them while they establish their bona fides.

On the bigger issue: Don't worry - neither Donald Trump nor Bernie Sanders will be the next President of the United States.

What happens if I fall madly in love with a Brit while I'm on vacation there? And want to get married?

Getting married to a Brit is no problem.

The issue of getting a spousal residency visa is a little more complicated. British law requires that your spouse -and only your spouse, the British part of the equation- have an annual income of at least £18,600 (about $28,000) before you can even apply for a residency Visa. And if you plan on living in Britain permanently (President Trump is sworn in for a second term...), you'd best hope that your marriage is at least reasonably durable, since they require a probationary period of five years before granting you a permanent resident visa.

Or, as the Brits so delightfully term it: Indefinite Leave to Remain

Hopefully, he's a rich dentist. Although I'm not sure "dentist" is an actual profession in the U.K.

It's the Penzey's herb mix I put on the breakfast eggs... something called Sunny Paris... :)

On topic, where is everyone hanging out to catch the New Hampshire results? I don't have a TV so I'm sticking with Twitter and the NYT's live blog I guess. I figure they're plugged into enough other news feeds to keep me tuned in.

Edit: Well the Times has already called both races for Trump and Sanders, that was easy... looks like a good page to hang out on as it updates. Kasich is looking good.

Hate to say this: But the thing about British teeth being bad is a bit of myth.

Thanks to the wonders of universal socialized medicine pretty much any Brit that needs basic dental care can get it - free of charge - from an NHS dentist.

One thing that really suffered in the US, as a result of the 2008 recession, was dental care. Millions of people lost the jobs with dental insurance. Millions more found the cost of private care too high. I'm still quietly shocked at how often I encounter Americans, my age and younger, with missing teeth or otherwise plainly suffering from want of basic dental care.

British dentistry is, in general, a little different. For one thing, in many instances the dentist himself will do the cleaning work that is typically done by a hygienist here in the USA. Cosmetic dentistry, such as porcelain veneers; implants; and orthodontistry is usually only done in private practice. Thats not to say that kids in Esher and Sutton Coldfield don't get their teeth straightened. But its less common than in the US.

To me the largest issue the media isn't covering is congressional PAC money and gifts to representatives! Both leaders both take no PAC money and that should say something!
