iTunes 12.5.3 - crashing when converting mp3s to iTunes Match/Apple Music

There's a solution in https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/itunes-12-5-3-match-crashes-fix-available-in-thread.2011509/. Essentially it is to use a backup from Time Machine of 12.5.2.
However, for us without Time Machine backups, we may have to wait for Apple to release an update which could be weeks at least.
