iTunes freezing when trying to sync Apps

So I updated to iTunes 9, and did a DFU restore of my iPod touch and set it up as a new iPod so I could get the best performance. But when I click the check box next to sync apps in the Apps tab, the check box won't check, and iTunes locks up. Even doing a Ctrl Alt and delete combo, won't quit iTunes. I've restarted and restored my iPod, AGAIN and no luck.

Now my 196 Apps will only stay on my PC and I will have to download then to the iPod touch.

I'm running WIndows XP Media Center Edition 2005 if that helps.
What should I do?

If you can downgrade to iTunes 8.

I know but will 3.1 work with iTunes 8? Is anyone else having this issue? Should I remove iTunes and QT from my PC and re-download them?
