I have moved my iTunes library over to an external harddrive, all is fine when connected, however as its a laptop I won't always have the external connected, when it isn't connected and I load iTunes it asks me to create a new library or select another one.

How can I download tracks on my laptop through iTunes without the harddrive connected and then add then consolidate them to the library when the external is connected.

Thanks

i have this issue too. i have the main library on the external, and then one on the laptop. i create a playlist so i know which songs have not been put on the external, then manually drag and drop those songs to the main external library. it's a hassle, but i haven't discovered other solutions

I have read somewhere a while ago you can do this, but can't remember where or how to do it.

Anyone know how?
