I downloaded a song from iTMS the other month but have since deleted my entire library so I could re-rip it (it was the only song I didn't have from a CD). In the process, I accidentally deleted the song I downloaded. Is there ANY way to get it back?

If there isn't, we should suggest to Apple that there be a method for re-downloading music that's been downloaded before, provided the computer is authenticated for the account.

Request away. There's a "requests and feedback" link right at the top of the iTMS front page. However (and it's been observed on this forum dozens of times in the past), if you accidently throw away a CD you bought, you can't go back to the record store at the mall and get a free replacement.

That's all fine and good, but this is slightly different. Not everything in the real world translates into the digital. What if it wasn't thrown away? What if there was a harddrive crash and info hadn't been backed up? Since a file can only be authorized to work on up to 3 computers at a time anyway, there should be no issue in allowing a redownload, because they know it was purchased, and it's not like you're weaseling a free copy, it can still only work on up to 3 computers at a time. (meaning they know that you don't have the song anymore because it's not authorized anywhere else, and even if you're lying, so what? You can't use the new file anymore than the old one due to the DRM)

I think Apple considers it your responsibility to back up your purchased files. I don't think re-downloading is an option. This is actually one of the many reasons I'm considering buying an iPod, because I'll have a synched backup of all my music files.
