iTunes (NOT) Match - why don't playlists sync?

If I could punch iTunes Match in the face, I would.

Here's how I expect it to work. I add a song to a playlist in iTunes. Then I open iTunes on my iPhone or iPad, and see the same song in the same playlist.

This morning I add a song to a playlist in iTunes on my Mac. I get to the gym and open iTunes on my phone. First problem: there are two copies of that playlist on my iPhone. Second problem: the song I added to it in iTunes on my Mac is not in EITHER of the playlists on my phone.

This isn't an isolated event. Happens all the time.

And yes, I did select the songs in iTunes on my Mac, right-click and "Add to iCloud" (though I don't know why I should have to do that at all).

Has anyone been able to figure this out?

I really wish I could help. My playlists sync, but not always right away. You could try turning Match off on your device, waiting about 10 minutes and then turning it back on. Doing so has actually fixed many of my Match issues.
