Jailbreaking and updating itouch

I have the 3g itouch and I was wondering if I can still download apps from the app stores and update my itouch overall when it's jailbreaked.

Downloading apps from the App Store: no problem
Updating apps you downloaded from the App Store: no problem
Updating to new firmware: generally not possible right after the firmware is released, but if you keep an eye on the various jailbreaking team sites, they'll let you know when it's OK

yeap, pretty much sums it all up. just keep up with updates on programs regarding jailbreaking...since the current one is tethered for 3rd gen ipod touch.
