Is this possible or a mistake? I Jb'd it yesterday using jailbreakme.com. The reason I ask is I would rather upgrade to 4.0.1 then re-jailbreak, as my brother would like the ios4 features. Don't wanna upgrade then lose the ability to jailbreak!
Yes. Cydia gets the blobs for all the firmwares it can. In your case, you Van safely upgrade to 4.0.1
Im just confused how it got 4.0.1 blobs? Now that 4.0.2 is out isn't it no longer possible to get them? this 3GS has NEVER been jailbroken before.
The SHSH blobs you can save have NOTHING to do with which firmware you have installed currently, it saves SHSH blobs for the firmware Apple is currently signing. For some reason Apple is still signing 4.0.1, not 4.0.2 (yet).
So even if you are on 3.1.3 and you have never installed 4.0.1, if Cydia has the 4.0.1 blob for you, you can "restore" to that? And then jailbreak with jailbreakme.com?
I've never "restored" before. I'm assuming all I need to do is to update the host file to point to Cydia's servers, download a 4.0.1 ipsw file, and restore to it in iTunes...? And then of course, go to Jailbreakme.com using Safari to jailbreak, and then redownload the ultrasn0w unlock package in Cydia... Do you know of anything REALLY important to know with this process?
