Actually, Jesus was a champion of the rich. He would be against health care for all, for the sake of the rich.

Jesus taught personal salvation through charity, kindness, and belief in him... not mutual salvation through charity and kindness at the tip of a roman (government) spear.

I don't think anybody's too fond of living under occupying armies and puppet governments.

    Liberal or conservative.

The key difference I'm trying to draw is private charity given willfully and freely by individuals out of the kindness of their heart vs. taxation and entitlements taken and redistributed by the strong hand of government. Many liberals (liberation theologists being the source of this misinformation) including Jim Wallis, argue that Jesus advocated for this type of government forced charity... I find the evidence demonstrates something very different, and that the entire point of his teachings was that as individuals we had to do the right thing by choice, not by force.

Do you see what you're doing here? You're equating a democratic/representational government with an occupying army and puppet government. Imagine for a moment that the government in Jesus's Israel was elected by the people. Do you think that Jesus would have a problem with charity given through elected members of the tribes? We know he already said, “Render unto Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God’s”. So even when the government was an occupying force he still supported giving to it.

But our government is not an occupying force. It is made up by "the people", elected by "the people", and accountable to "the people". The decisions and laws made by the government are the collective will of the people. So please, let's leave comparisons to Roman armies behind. I'm sure, given what we already know about Jesus and his views on government authority, that if he lived in a country governed by the people that he'd have no problem with taxation and entitlements taken and redistributed by the hand of the people.
