Jittering Display

my Setup is: new G5, 1.8 GHz with the ATI 9600 XT (128 MB) graphics card, OS X 10.3.4. Due to budget constraints I opted for a ViewSonic VP201 LCD display. They are connected using the DVI cable that came with the G5.

Problem: the display is doing something between jittering and "bunny hopping" - don't know how to describe it more accurately. The screen goes up and then almost immediately comes down again. Upper and lower lines move synchronized and there seems to be no left/right distortion - just a slght "hop" of the whole screen.

It almost exclusively happens at the highest resolution (1600x1200 at 60Hz) but sometimes (very rarely) can be seen at 1280x1024 at 75Hz as well. Once it starts, does not stop on its own. Switching resolutions cures the problem some times, but not all the times.

Anybody else experienced these problems or is willing to make a guess? Bad drivers? Not enough graphics memory? Electromagnetic Interference? I'm at a loss ...
