Description:: Steve Jobs is a narcissistic perfectionist with a volcanic temper who considers most people to be "bozos.'' Apple Inc.'s chief executive officer is also among the greatest business leaders of all time.

What's with the F-ed up leading double quotes in that article?
Apparently it was written in Word and it's "smart quotes" didn't translate? :)

Every great (as in successful) business leader is, to a certain extent, egomaniacal and single-minded to a fault. The proof is whether they can do anything with it. Jobs does, Ballmer, well...

Jobs' behavior is not unique among founders of high-tech companies. I worked in high-tech start-ups for about 20 years, and met several company founders and high-level execs who had the same type of behavior. There have been studies by psychiatrists of the prevalence of such conduct in different professions, and they say that it is "over-represented" in the population of entreprenuers, scientists, engineers, and artists.

My experience was that such behavior tends to be a filter among the engineers. Those who can deal with it (i.e., not be intimidated) and at the same time convey a sense that they are just as committed to success as the person doing the yelling often become highly valued employees. Those who can't usually self-elect to find other positions. Intel under Andy Grove promoted a culture they called "constructive conflict".

The only difference between this guy and everyone else is that he paints a nicer picture of Jobs. I certainly won't be buying the book. It's yet another take on how an author feels Jobs manages. If it didn't come from Jobs' mouth it's utter crap, and by that I mean it may be 50% true.
