Its good to see the USA showing compassion towards mentally ill people for a change instead of locking them away - without meds - for 23+ hours a day - in solitary confinement - disgraceful.

This guy won't get any compassion from the right wing, Regan is their golden calf.

No mental person would get compassion from them unless their immediate family member had a mental problem. Only then would they acknowledge it as a real issue.

In general I would agree with you (although the dude did something kinda bad...); my question is, once out what happens to him? I don't think he's going to find a respectable job and have many friends.
I hope all the best for him, honestly.

I'm not sure anyone who attempts to assassinate a sitting president should ever be released.

Okay, I ask you this - is it fair that people with Mental Health issues should be locked away without meds for 23+ hours in solitary confinement fair - YES or NO ?

If he's not a danger to himself or others, no. I don't understand why a mentally ill person would have their meds withheld. Put him on his meds and let him finger paint 10hrs a day for all I care.

I would classify anyone who is willing to kill another human being (who is not a direct threat to your life) as having some degree of mental illness. Whether it be long term or short term.

That's great, but this guy has actual official diagnoses of mental illness.

So does the Aurora, Co shooter, when do you suspect we should let him go live with his mommy?

    Hi
A large majority of USA prisoners have mental health issues and are not given meds - and kept in solitary 23+ hours, think about it.

As long as his doctors and the courts agree that he is no longer a threat I don't see why not.

If he is able to actually recover medically from his condition in the future and is proven to not be a threat to others with proper monitoring and medication, I don't see why not.

I truly cannot grasp the idea of treating the mentally ill like animals in this country. Locked out of sight and removed from society, that's inhumane.

YES, what you say is 100% correct
why are most Americans so blind about mental illness.

The guy was having homicidal thoughts 3-4 times a day and was allowed to walk the street because he didn't make "specific" threats. I'm sorry but I have next to no confidence any mental health professional can say anyone isn't a threat when they've already shown they can be.

What statistics are you looking at that 60%+ of US prisoners have mental health issues? Please provide a source.

That was when he wasn't in a medical facility for 20+ years under the supervision of professionals. To conflate the two is disingenuous.
