I just read an article about an interview McCain did with the Spanish press. He had a very Palin moment, giving an un-answer that was in absolutely no way related to the question that was asked of him. Funny/pathetic quote from the article:

EDIT: Here's another article from Time.

Some choice quotes from that article:

So either way, this doesn't reflect well upon McCain. Either he is completely unaware of Spain's political leaders and it's geographic location, or he will continue to snub an ally in Europe.

While i dont doubt it, having the actual link is always nice to shove in the face of those people who call these things downright lies.

i loved the emphasis on "those people" he used. I really think hes just under the assumption that all "those" countries are the same. :p

Sorry for another post on this subject, but the McCain campaign has come out and said that indeed, McCain would not meet with the Prime Minster of Spain, who's country is a member of NATO and the EU.

If you listen to the interview though, it's clear that McCain has no idea who Zapatero is, and this admittance from the campaign is probably their attempt to save face for such a big gaffe.

is PRSI slow today or what?

you and i are the only ones in this thread, and threads taht are usually always near the top of the new posts page are just sitting.

anyway, im not sure of Mccains travels, but it really seems like his experience is blown way out of proportion.

He argues obama hasnt visited any countries south of us. Mccain seems to only do that, VISIT for a pr event and thats it.

Oh come on, give the man a break. When he was in Vietnam, he wasn't even near Spain for 5 years!

Here is another article from WaPo, which offers a different slant on the story.

The story is new, and I have not had time to digest it yet - not sure what to think. I suspect we shall see more on this over the next few days. The Sunday talk shows are going to really have their hands full. Personally, I would rather see McCain's feet held to the fire over the economy, rather than spending too much time on this stuff, interesting for sure.

I heard this on the radio yesterday. McCain sounded like an old man who has lost his mind and is just mumbling on without any idea of what is coming out of his mouth.

If he wasn't running for President it would have been quite sad...

Why does he need to know where Spain is? He wants to bomb Iran, not Spain.

He has no reason to know where Spain is because it has no oil.

Spain is one of those countries I always thought of as extremely easy to remember it's geography, like Italy.

Is this just me? I do have a degree in Geography.

Let me rephrase that for Bartleby :D

Spain has no crude oil! Therefore McCain would have no interest in knowing where Spain is located.

On a serious point though it does kind of scare me how poor a lot of Americans' geography is.

    *puts on flame proof suit*

I used to work for an American company and many of the staff were American but had no idea where they were on the planet and what countries were nearby. I could name all 50 US states and have a good go at the capital cities too and wouldn't be far wrong. As well as locate pretty much any country in the world without needing to think and I got a C in geography.

Considering without Spain the United States wouldn't exist at all I think we can categorise his ignorance as treason :p

No, it's the same thing with me. Those two are just as easy to remember as continents like Africa and Australia in my head (nope, no degree in geography here).
