So I just did the big leap from Mojave to Monterey and the only thing I don't like is the transparent menu bar and the new fonts. The rounded edges will take some getting used to.

Yes, like when Sierra came out, it was a big adjustment over the old Aqua look.
You can go into System Preferences > Accessibility > Display and check the box to reduce transparency if you don't like it.
If you get the right wallpaper, it can look decent.
The rounded edges, yeah that's another thing. I do miss the look of Catalina, was much more refined macOS instead of iOS.

I'm also on Mojave (2017 Macbook) so guessing i should upgrade to Monterey too.. since it's no longer supported.
I know I'll lose my old Office software. Otherwise I just have photos, music and some other files. Looks like I can also save my Safari tabs to a file.
I'm thinking I'll save my files to my Samsung T5 SSD, do a fresh install of Mojave, then upgrade to Monterey, then load all my files from the Samsung T5.
I've been migrating since I had a white plastic Macbook 10 years ago, so it seems this will clean things up a bit. I'll have to get a new program to replace Office2008.

This past week I migrated my cMP 4,1 running Mojave to Monterey on a M1 Mac Mini. The only problem is that none of my 29GB music folder transferred which caused me to panic until I recalled I had a backup. All those mp3 files are apparently now in the Apple Music cloud but none of them download to my Mac. And when checking the Auto Download box in Music settings the box does not stay checked.
