I just bought a brand new iPhone XR 64 GB for $150 and another 120 GB version for $199 through AT&T. I am upgrading from an iPhone 7 Plus so I am pretty excited. My wife is coming from an iPhone 7.

I spoke to the AT&T Loyalty Department to get the deal. I had to commit to:
  • Stay with AT&T for 2 years
  • Be upgrade eligible on the line you want to upgrade
  • Pay for the phone outright - no payment plans

Awesome deal if I so say myself. The new iPhone 11 looks amazing but this was a deal I couldn't pass up. I just got two new iPhone XR for around $350 total.

I didn't have to make any changes to my current plan and I also asked them to waive the upgrade fees which they did. By selling my two older iPhone 7 phones, it will pay for the upgrade plus put some extra money in our pockets. :D

Nice but maybe should have waited until tomorrow and asked what their price for ATT loyalty would have been for the 11....

It must be a catch.

Yes but I doubt it will be the price I got for two new phones. iPhone XR is a huge upgrade at a great price. Plus I think the 2020 iPhones will tempt me to upgrade again which if I do, I will just sell the iPhone XR and buy the new iPhone.

It must be a catch.

I am not sure how. I double checked and asked all the questions for any hidden fees or changes to my plan. The representative confirmed that I keep what I have. I believe me committing to a 2 year contract makes it worthwhile for AT&T.

Yeah I bet you just got hornswaggled. What AT&T likes to do is increase your line charge by $10-$20 when they do these deals. Check your bill. TANSTAAFL!

I supposed there is a chance for that but I will be keeping an eye on it. If they do try to pull something like that, I will request for them to pull the call itself since I confirmed over and over in the call that no other charges would be happening.

No catch, except that he’s locked into a two year commitment per line. It’s the classic way of doing business. Pay $199 + commit to 2 years. It’s how it use to be Before these fancy phone financing plans became a thing. Phones locked to ATT until contract commitment is met, or pay a ridiculous cancellation fee which drops a little with every month into the commitment

Sounds like the old deal where you paid 2 bills for the phone, then they jack your bill up elsewhere.

Hey guys, I got a new Mac Pro for $10!

It was just $10 upfront and whilst I’m locked into a 52 year contract at $190 a month, I only paid $10 for it.

Bargain, right?

Glad you all are having your fun with this but no, that is not the deal I have.

I spoke with them a second time to confirm. There is no change to my current plan of what I pay which is about $115 for my two lines. They aren't increasing the price for anything nor is there a hidden fee. I have confirmed this with them over and over. I also made them notate my account again the second time that is the agreement. I have recorded the names of the representatives I spoke with and also the day and time.

Exactly. I actually loved these 2 year contracts deals back in the day. It works great for people like me who don't need to switch their phone every year.

I am only committing to stay with AT&T for 2 years - they aren't increasing the price on my monthly bill.

If you say so.

Congrats OP - Sounds like a good deal. I've had my XR 128GB for almost a year and it's been a simply awesome phone. Runs great and no issues at all. Keeping it at least another year. Hope you enjoy your upgrades.

Sounds like contract upgrades that used to exist for a long time until the last few years.
