For a really unusual take on this topic, I'd suggest to anyone who is interested to take a look at a terrific and very well-written book called "Lenin's Embalmers" by Ilya Zbarsky (the medic whose father first embalmed Lenin, and whose family - despite having been oppressed as the euphemism has it during Stalin's period of rule - continued to carry on the family tradition of specialist embalming at the request of the state). A very unusual and grotesquely, absurdly, funny perspective on Russian/Soviet history. Cheers.
