Kentucky Bill Would Require Wife's Permission Before Man Can Get Viagra

A Democratic state lawmaker in Kentucky last week introduced a bill that would require men to meet with their doctor twice and obtain permission from their wives before obtaining a prescription for a drug for erectile dysfunction. The bill is designed as a critique to the restrictions on abortion access passed by the state.

Rep. Mary Lou Marzian, the lawmaker who introduced the bill, told Louisville paper The Courier-Journal in an interview published on Monday that she wants to protect men and make sure they understand the side effects of drugs like viagra.

"I want to protect these men from themselves," she said.

The bill, in addition to requiring two office visits and written permission from a man's wife, directs doctors to "prescribe a drug for erectile dysfunction only to a man who is currently married." The legislation also requires "a man to make a sworn statement with his hand on a Bible that he will only use a prescription for a drug for erectile dysfunction when having sexual relations with his current spouse."

Too funny. The thing is, with the prevailing mood in some areas of the US, I wouldn't be surprised if such a bill passed.

Women legislating a man's penis, epic. This should be discussed openly with an all women only panel, just to make a statement. Flip the tables on them for a change.

I'm pretty sure that law would conflict with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) which restricts the disclosure of any health-related information.

So you have to have a uterus to have an stance on abortion? How many years does one have to serve to qualify them to speak on matters of national security?

You're not the one who's going to go through some rough body changes for a child you're not yet ready to raise.

Not quite. They have the capacity for self awareness, and are thus totally cognizant of the horror and tragedy that's befalling them.

Keep in mind that I'm against third trimester abortions because I consider them babies in the womb by that point. Honestly, I'd probably put the cut off date more towards the middle of the second trimester. But before that? What you've got in the womb is a "will be", not a "currently is", and should be defined by an entirely different set of philosophical standards.

it is not just abortion but birth control and freedom. You should have a uterus if your going to make laws that only effect women. we have seen the stupidity of what male lawmakers do to women in Kentucky.

Our opinions differ, but our opinions don't really matter , because neither one of us have a uterus.
