I have the apple trackpad and keyboard and my keyboard keeps randomly dropping bluetooth connection, trackpad is fine.

I remember having similar issues a long time ago but later updates seemed to cure it, it seems since latest Mojave updates the problem is back.

Is there anything I can do to try to fix it?

The keyboard will drop connection and connect again almost instantly, sometimes it happens twice in quick succession.

Thanks

Not that it helps, but I have this very issue and searched and found your question. Were you able to figure it out? Apple was of little use, blamed the trackpad, and maybe they are right, but the keyboard also does it occasionally but not as often.

Hi

It seemed to be the batteries in the end, I must have had a dodgy battery in the keyboard as the battery status reported 75% then 5% the next day.

Since changing them it's been fine.

Sorry that does not likely help you either.

Got it thank you anyway. Glad to hear yours is working!

Hello there

What Mac are you using? Not sure if that would help but let me tell you what happened for my case.

I had lagging keyboard & trackpad with my Mac mini 2018 & often drop off at startup. After multiple tests and reading a lot about Bluetooth issues with this mini, I managed to find the culprit: the USB type-A on the mini, where I connected my external HDD. I switched it to a USB type-C and now all good, except now my Hue light is not responsive unless I move a bit the Philips Bridge.

Anyway I suspect your case might be due to interferences either from an “unshielded” USB device or use of 2.4 GHz band for WiFi.

Could you list your gear & all your devices? Which WiFi are you using?

Now this is interesting thank you here we go
MBP 2018 - 13"
Dell Monitor
Apple Wireless Keyboard with number pad latest version
Apple Magic Trackpack II - New in 2017
4 HDDs Plugged into an Anker hub
Anker Hub USB C into the MBP
I do have a Hue strip behind the monitor plugged into the strip that has power for most of the above with the exception of the computer, however they are on the same overall circuit as the wall wart.

This is very possible as you can see plenty to interfere in this location. In fact the hue strip was purchased at about the same time as this MBP. I hadn't thought of that because my old 2015 never had the issue I associated it with the computer.

If you have an idea where to start I am all ears? My initial thought is that I will disconnect the Hue strip and wait and see for a bit and work my way toward the computer. Assume the HDDs are putting off some noise as well because they are spinning tray type, but am unsure what freq would interfere.

Firstly try with every devices unplugged and leave only the MacBook Pro with keyboard and TrackPad. Restart the Mac.

Wait a bit and plug everything again.

Secondly unplug the Philips Hue bridge and restart. Wait a bit.

Then plug it again. Try after a while by unplugging your USB hub.

Goal is to find the culprit.

Alright I will give that a go and let you know. Figure it will take a few days. Fingers crossed thanks!

You’ll see pretty fast if the issue is due to interferences. Just need to figure out which device.

Also check which band of WiFi you use.
