Hey everyone. I just wanted to share my story and maybe ask a question I would like cleared up. So I got my first iPhone 6 in space grey about a month ago. The next morning after I got it I am sitting at he Apple store because when I would record video it wouldn't play sound back. So they replace it no questions. Now yesterday I notice my front facing camera has that crescent shape sliver on it like it shifted. So I bring it to Apple and they were just going to replace the screen but it was easier to just give me a new phone again. So I have a new phone since yesterday. i don't mind getting new phones but I would like it if I didn't keep on having to. Kind of bummed. Also how do I know this phone won't do the same thing with the front camera? What is the cause of it? I was so careful with my phone. Always making sure it was in a safe place and it still had the issue. I don't know how to prevent it.

Thanks !

i have the crescent silver thing around my front facing camera too. I find it weird it made it past inspection at the plant. It came like that out of the box. My theory is that they were rushing production to get as many iPhones out and it wasn't properly aligned. Everything works the way it should. I doubt it shifts on its own so I don't think you have to worry about your new phone shifting on you. Nevertheless it doesn't bother me, if any factory defects bother you then by all means return it and ask for a replacement, it is a very expensive phone and you should have expectations.

Wow. I just realized it's there on mine too. I don't really use the front camera so I don't think I'm going to let it bother me but it's good to know its there as backup if something else goes awry.

Mine does too, doesn't bother me or the performance of the device.

Kind of upset. On my 3rd iPhone 6 now

I have the Crescent thing on my phone too I just noticed. I never use the front camera but I tried it and it seems to work just fine. I'm not going to return it because of that, it's just too much of a pain to set up a new phone for that reason.

Good luck man! I'm on my 5th for various screen reasons and 3 of them and my current one for the FaceTime issue. I'm saving this one till the end of warranty to send it back. Hopefully by then the workers won't be so tired and they will install the cameras more securely! ;) if you don't see a neat blue glow from the front camera it's just s matter of time till you see the cushion start creeping back over.

The camera thing only happens on Space Grey iPhone 6's I noticed this on my mom's 6 so I checked my friends and theirs had it too, the only one that didn't have it was my grandma's.

So based on your tiny sample you have determined that ONLY Space Grey phones have this issue?

To be fair in my own tiny sample I have only seen Space Grey 6's have this issue too. Several of my colleagues in our office with the SG have had front camera shifts and none of the Gold or Silver appear to have the problem. It might be because the bezel on the other colours disguises it better I am not sure? My silver doesn't have the problem though I know that, and I've had mine since launch day.

Its quite simple: keep the phone and eventually just before you decide to sell it, take it to apple store, let them know about the faulty camera, they'll give you a new phone and BOOM, higher resale value. You're welcome:cool:

That may be true about the space grey ones. I checked a co workers gold one and it's perfect. He doesn't care about it throwing it on his desk all the time so that is concerning.

I'm confused about your OP. What is there to be bummed about? The store took heed to your issue and replaced the phone. So, you had 2 replacements. Sure it's an inconvenience but you're bummed out? What for? Your phone is working right?

That's not the point. I'm concerned because there's no real fix for it. So what is to say that this phone won't eventually do it? Honestly it shouldn't do it at all. I don't mind going to my local Apple store but shouldn't have to keep doing it. In my eyes I'm paying this much it shouldn't have issues like this. I've been using an iPhone since the 3G. Flawless 3g and 4 that I had but when I got my 5 had to return it 4 times. And now with my 6 is concerning that's all.

You have two choices as there is no permanent fix at the current time: 1) Keep swapping it out every time the crescent moon issue crops up, or 2) live with it and swap it out right before the warranty ends. There's a chance they'll implement a permanent fix in the coming months, but if not, it's the buyer's problem down the line when you sell it with the camera intact.

Yeah I don't sell my devices. So I guess I'll hope for a more permanent fix. Or just keep going back. I would have gotten a white face one if I would have known.

Ah, I see. So is this issue only on the Space Grey 6 and not the 6 Plus? I don't see any issue like this on my Space Grey 6 Plus and I've had it since release day.

crescent thing? Is that the blue glow?

No with the phone I had where the camera was installed properly the FaceTime camera is up closer to the glass and there is a distinct blue colored glow you see coming from the lens of the FaceTime camera in daylight. I believe this is correct and it looked sweet. On every phone I've seen/had without the blue glow eventually had the camera cushion shift over. The camera is actually sitting back a little from the glass and that's why the cushion is able to work its way over in time. So if you see a neat bluish glow you're all good! :)

Mine looks very blue. That's good?

Yeah that's right! The one I had that was blue didn't shift after a few weeks but I had to send it back because my screen was yellow tinted on the left side and turned to a bluish white. And I had a dark corner. It drove me nuts so I sent it back and then I got one with an acceptable screen but the facetime camera cushion is shifting! I've decided to live with and and its kind of nice knowing I can get a new/refurbished phone/screen at the end of this year because of it! :)

Still on my original iPhone 6 space Gray 64gb since September. It's been naked and it's still perfect.

What happens with the different serial numbers? I've often wondered if you try and sell a refurb in the box you got your original iPhone in, won't they wonder why the serial numbers are different? Or will the story about it being a refurb be ok?
