WHY can't people just enjoy the [IMG] show? must we attach politics to everything?

Don't know where you've been the past 60 years, but Star Trek has ALWAYS been about Social Commentary. From Kirk's and Uhura's interracial kiss, to the issues on ST:TNG that still are relevant to this day, to the atrocities of war on ST:DS9, Star Trek has always been about being socially conscious, to where it's embedded in the show's DNA. It is supposed to make you think, not just escape into a sci-fi world to forget your troubles.

We actually need a show like that today, to be reminded of what is happening, and why it is happening.

That is, unless you want to be bombarded with more episodes of Glee, <insert country here>'s Got Talent, and more reality TV shows, which their bubbleheadedness brought us to where we are today.

To be fair - Star Trek has always been political and about attacking social issues.

Social commentary yes. We all know that ST takes on philosophical and political issues.
What it never did was shortsighted political commentary. ST discusses the much larger issues, not... Trump. That’s why the lessons that the original ST taught us are still true.
Trump isn’t worthy of even being mentioned as a reference on any Star Trek (Same goes for Obama).

That’s not what we’re discussing. As a Trekkie, I’ll watch it anyways ;)

I watched it. It wasn't nearly compelling enough for me to subscribe to CBS All Access.

I watched it on regular CBS - was that just episode 1 - a teaser? or will they just air on CBS a week behind?

As far as I know, they aired the first episode on CBS, the rest will only be on their subscription service.

The whole "Klingons are Trump supporters!!1!" outrage was just fake news spread by conservatives who wanted to feel like victims. Sad that it went so far that CBS had to come out and deny it.

I seem to remember this when it was announced. That's their loss. I'm not paying to watch a/that/one show. I'm sure I'm not alone. Too bad - good show.

    Guilty as charged.
Last Saturday I did the 18-hour marathon of the entire Twin Peaks: The Return series (which is actually a single, 18 hour long movie). All of it, in one sitting. Tough, but amazing!

As others have pointed out, Star Trek has always been about social and political commentary.

And, if it - the new series - turns up at some stage on one of the British channels (or even, perish the though, on Sky) I would more than likely succumb to the temptation to watch a few episodes.
