Two somewhat distantly related issues…. but concerning for most Western powers, to say the least. 1. Is it time to recognize Kurdish independence? Have they "deserved it" (as their supporters would say)? Regardless of what the neighbors think, the Kurds are voting on it anyways. Israel openly supports an independent Kurdistan (it's in the news). No surprise, Iran Turkey and Iraq all three vow to crush any independent Kurd republic. 2. Catalan secession from Spain. October 1st, they get to vote. If they overwhelmingly vote "YES" to their independence, and Madrid cracks down to annul the people's vote …. one can only think of what is going to happen in the streets of Barcelona. Maybe Donald might…. not might…. he will certainly (and stupidly) take sides here. But whose side will he take? Will he take the side of the Madrid Monarchy and then threaten (bluff) US military action against Barcelona? It sounds moronic, but definitely something predictable coming from Infantile Donald's Tweets. Russian agents are accused of fomenting Catalan secession, a campaign to stoke tensions and get the people of Catalunya riled up. So is WikiLeaks Assange, he is loudly supporting and rallying for Catalan independence. The rest of the West are pretty much unsettled by the idea of a breakaway Catalan republic.
