Time is running out on the Apple Card sign-up promo that began last month. For three more days, you can effectively receive AirPods Pro 3 for free when you sign up for a new Apple Card, but there are some strings attached.

If you sign up for and are approved for an Apple Card for the first time, and use it to purchase AirPods Pro 3 by June 15, you can earn up to $250 in bonus cash back over a 10-month period if you meet minimum transaction requirements.

Specifically, from July 1, 2026 through April 30, 2027, you can earn a bonus $25 cash back each month when you use your new Apple Card to make a minimum of 10 purchases of any amount ($0.01 or higher) that post to your account each month. The initial purchase of the AirPods Pro 3 does not count towards this requirement.

AirPods Pro 3 are regularly priced at $249 in the U.S. — but are currently on sale on Amazon for an all-time low price of $179 — so this promotion effectively allows you to earn back the cost of the wireless earbuds over 10 months.

If you already have an Apple Card, you are not eligible for this promotion.

Apple's website outlines full terms and conditions for this promotion, so be sure to look over the fine print at the bottom of the page.

Apple's credit card launched in 2019, and it remains available in the U.S. only. The card can be managed in the Apple Wallet app on an iPhone, has no annual fee, and offers up to 3% cash back (known as Daily Cash) on purchases paid out daily.

Daily Cash amounts: 1% on purchases with the physical Apple Card, 2% on purchases with the digital Apple Card via Apple Pay, and 3% on purchases from Apple itself and select partners such as Nike, Walgreens, Ace Hardware, and Uber.

Or, you could get an Amazon credit card, which gives you $200 Amazon credit without needing to buy anything (+$50 if you get an invite from someone). And you can buy AirPods Pro 3 for $180. Now you have $20+ more left to buy other things. You also get muuuuhch better cashback and other benefits. Apple card sucks, and I can’t wait for Chase to take over.

I've been wanting the Apple Card for awhile and I need the Airpods Pro 3 anyway. All the 3% cash back merchants I use often. But more importantly I don't have a Mastercard anymore, so having one again is useful. Can just move your Apple subs to the card and set it as your primary transit card. Basically if you can make the purchases without any real lifestyle changes or don't have good cashback options today, it's no big deal if you need Airpods.

I’d agree with you only if the Apple Card was truly giving you AirPods Pro 3 for free. But it’s not.

APP3 is $249 from the Apple Store, and you still have to pay sales tax upfront whether you use the 6-month installment plan or not. So the math looks like this:
-$249.00 for APP3
-$22.39 for average CA tax at 8.99%
+$250 from the 10-month promo credits
+$7.47 from 3% cash back on APP3
That comes out to -$13.92.

So even with simple addition, you’re still paying about $13.92 for this “free” APP3. And that’s before considering net present value, because you’re paying now but getting the credits later. With a 5% annual opportunity cost, the effective cost is closer to $15.82.

Meanwhile, you could open a Chase Freedom Flex, get the $200 bonus, and buy APP3 from Amazon for around $179 plus tax. After the promo credit, you actually come out ahead by about $4.90, which is much closer to truly free AirPods Pro 3. Plus, it’s still a Mastercard, which is what you wanted anyway.

So with the Apple Card, you’re basically still paying for APP3, getting mediocre cash back and benefits, and having to jump through this weird monthly 10-purchase promo. That’s why a lot of people think the offer is bad.

You have to spend $500 within 3 months to get the $200, that's the catch.

One is likely to spend $500 on Apple but they can slow roll it over time. Basically they made the Apple Card promo dependent on getting merchant fees back. The card has it's own rolling benefits like right now with $30 in Uber Eats credits when you spend on groceries, and the free Apple high-yield savings account. These other cards have a hard cap on how much cashback at top-tier, and it's a category specific. I already have a card that has 3% cashback for say online purchases up to $2500/quarter and this card is just up to $1500.

Also I already have a Chase product with Amazon Visa that's only used for those purchases, and I don't plan to expand that relationship any further aside from when Apple Card gets swallowed by them.
