I'm looking to replace my 15+ yr old 21" TV. I'm trying to decide between a 24" Dell UltraSharp (1920x1200) and a 32" Sony TV (1080p). I plan on using the display mainly as a TV, but I'd also like to use it as a second display for my iMac and various laptops.

My iMac runs at 1920x1200, so would the picture quality still look as good on the 1080 Sony TV? I'm mainly wondering if the difference between 1200 and 1080 will be very noticeable.

Also, are there any cons or drawbacks from using an LCD monitor as a TV? or a TV as a second computer display?

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

    If it's a 32" TV with resolution of 1920x1080, I wouldn't recommend it.
Try finding one with higher resolution if you want to use it as a monitor as well. I use Samsung T260HD and it's serving me great as a TV and a monitor as well. 26" with 1920x1200 looks alright, but I'm not too sure about 32" monitor with the same resolution...

Anyways, I'd go with an LCD TV since it has much more use than just a monitor. (And since I use my T260HD to hook up almost everything that I personally use/own...)

    Don't step into the kawoosh...

You won't find something listed as a TV with a higher resolution then 1080p; at least I have not. I have a 47in TV that is 1080p and using it as a monitor looks just fine. I have an xbox hooked up to it and it outputs at 1080i and I also hook my MBP up to it and it outputs at 1440x900 (or larger if I want it to). Both devices look just fine on the TV.
