Anyway, back on topic, I went today to buy the saddle brown leather case for my iPhone 13 Pro, only to find that it has been replaced by the hideous “golden brown” orange color. Weird and sad decision.
Got the dark green instead, which is nice but it’s the end of an era since I had a saddle brown every year since it was released.

Yeah for the most part they really ****ed up the Leather Case colours for the 13 Pro, I had an epiphany that the Silicone Case colours are a lot prettier. For Leather, none of the five options are a direct match with the Sierra Blue. Meanwhile, over at the Silicone side, at launch they gave us not one but two blues to choose from. I really liked the 12 Pro‘s leather options - you had that bright and fun California Poppy, the Pacific Blue-match Baltic Blue, the rich Deep Violet, and then of course trusty Saddle Brown. They dropped the ball for the 13 Pro colours.
Here’s my Abyss Blue Silicone Case I got from Day 1, it’s a very elegant match with Sierra Blue and as much as I love it, I still wonder “just why didnt they do this colour in Leather?” - it really seems like a no brainer. Seqouia Green, Midnight and Golden Brown have Silicone counterparts (as does Dark Cherry but not for the phone case).
I’m normally not that keen on the Silicone Cases, but because of how much I like the Abyss Blue its a keeper and its working just fine.
There’s one ray of hope left - and that’s Spring 2022 when the accessory line gets a big refresh - just hope the Leather Cases get some actual good new colours. Silicone I’m not fussed about as the current colours are already nice enough
How’s the silicone case holding up? Any rubbing off at the corners?
My GF has one and it is holding extremely well even though she’s a bit careless. Really impressed with it.
I love both the colors and the tactile feel of the silicone cases, but it’s a no go for me because it’s a pain to get it in/out of my pockets.
Unfortunately the colour is rubbing off a little bit at the corners on the front edges that I think comes from putting it in and out of my pocket a lot, but the darker colour of the case does a better job of hiding it. It’s no concern at this stage and I’m otherwise happy enough with it - not as much as a lint magnet as the 11 Pro version!
What I would be more worried about is, my friend who has the 12 Pro Silicone Case warned me: be very careful when you remove the case and put it on, eg, he loved seeing the coloured MagSafe ring animation - the front edges (the lip) are actually prone to chipping or having a bit of it come off, and when it happened to his week old case, his local Apple store refused to return or exchange it for another one despite being in returns period, because “it has to be in its original condition, the chip is your fault”, and that was the Managers word so you couldn’t dispute it either. I told him that Apple Store is bogus, you are absolutely entitled to a return or exchange and to try a different store instead but yeah
My wife and I had to stop buying the silicon cases for this reason - it only took a few months before they started wearing and getting really shiny where the hands contacted the case. And yes, any removal/re-application of the case resulted in the possibility of chipping the edges. It’s sad because they look great and feel great. But good grief, they look horrible when they get shiny - like someone smothered grease on them.
Can someone post pictures of used baltic blue 12 series’ cases? My girlfriend took one for my 12 mini as Christmas gift and I want to have an idea about how it will patina. Thanks.
Can you give us another update on this case? I'm considering asking my brother to buy one for me when he's on your side of the Atlantic.
Have they released new leather colors in the spring drops in the past? I always thought it was new silicone cases

Yes, Spring is usually only when new leather colours drop for a flagship phone. There usually a summer release too but that’s always been Silicone only.
With the 12, this Spring, curiously it was only a single new colour for Leather, the Deep Violet, but in previous years flagship phones the leather would get 3 new colours each. The MagSafe wallet for the 12 got a single new colour called Arizona. I’m reasonably hopeful for the 13 they’ll release 3 new leather colours in Spring as they did for iPhones prior to the 12.

Love it. I like repairing/restoring things and reusing. This would definitely be right up my alley if it were my case. I’d repair and reuse it. What corner had the damage? I can’t tell, great job at repairing it.

Looks good IMO. I dropped my iPhone 12 Pro onto concrete in the Nomad Rugged case when I was in LA earlier in September, took the hit in the same exact spot as your case. Thought it was ruined, but everything smoothed out and patinated even better.
now that looks more rugged look. That corner should patina dark after some use.

Thank you so much for your appreciation! I just rubbed some alcohol to remove the horrible coating. But no sanding, no friction. Just gentle scrubbing with alcohol. I see the leather now getting a really good patina, pretty fast and all around the case.
