Not buying an inferior product, Apple.

The iPad 4 should have been lighter and thinner, but it'll do for now. Wouldn't be so disappointed if you called it iPad 3S.

I'm starting to understand Tim Cook's style now. He's playing it very safe, while Steve was really pushing to utilize experimental technology that no one would dare.

Tim isn't the visionary leader. I think Jonathan Ive needs to be a partner-CEO with Tim.

I would say yes to A6 and no to retina. I'm not sure display quality can go up that much. That would be the same Ppi as the iPhone at twice the diagonal. If they do, I'll be very impressed.

Ive is doing fine with the design. I'm more concerned with how dated iOS feels. I played with an Windows RT tablet the other day and while it had flaws of it's own it definitely feels more refined with the ability to actually multitask. The software team needs to wake up.

It would just be the same PPI as the iPhone and the same resolution as the iPad 4.

    They have the technology already.

Lol. Most likely, yes. And it'll be even thinner.

I think A6 yes. Retina is a 'maybe'. Will they manage to decrease power drain from a screen of that high res in a tablet with 1/3rd the battery size? Will they make it thin enough to fit into a 7.2mm body?

I feel they will keep the non-retina for another generation.

actually, i don't see it getting thinner. they didn't make the 4 thinner than the 3.

the question is not WHAT it will have - we all know that.

    the question is WHEN.

i bet 4 to 6 months - which gives them time to cash in from those cluless people who are all to happy to give them money now and then again when they release the proper version of the product.

This would also allow them to sell the 1st Gen iPad Mini at a lower price point.

At $329 the mini really should have included that A6 processor.

So it lends credibility to a refresh of the iPad Mini in March. The iPad Mini could get a retina display and an A6 chip. The 1st Gen Mini could drop $50 in price to $279 which would be about a 15% decrease.

Currently, the iPad 2 is selling at a 20% discount from the iPad 4.

The iPad and iPhone retinas are far different. And they have the technology, but it's much harder to make a larger screen with the same ppi. That would be iPad 3/4 resolution in a 7.9" tablet. Why buy the bigger one with a lower pixel density?

I doubt that retina display will be on there by next update. Apple has to do something keep the difference between 9.7 inch iPad vs 7.9 inch iPad mini.

Based on Apple History, Apple will continue to hammer Display, Storage options and Processor speeds.

because the viewing distance is different on larger devices

the smaller the screen, the closer you hold it to your face

that's why you'll never see a retina imac or cinema display

Do you really think Apple can get away with a 1024x768 screen for 18-24 months straight? That would just be sad.

Yes, they can... because apple clearly talked about how apple app store has more apps for tablets. Apple believes that people wants to buy iPad mini for apps and performance. Average users will not know what in the world A6 or A5 mean.
