Is there some kind of GPS app that has a general map of the Earth so that you can use the compass and GPS to sail your way to some destination??

Haha, going in one direction. I'd love to learn how to navigate by the stars though. But I don't even have a boat yet. I was just... daydreaming at work... lol

Of course, Google Earth requires a data connection, which I doubt exists over the Atlantic :D

Now imagine you're using your iPhone without a data connection to GPS and compass yourself to INSERT DESTINATION OF YOUR DREAMS! :D

Sailing in one solid direction isn't a great idea when you're dealing with ocean currents and prevailing winds... you'd want an astrolabe or sextant.
