"Here she was, an ambitious political woman with the sort of egalitarian marriage that would put the Swedes to shame. Here she was, a charismatic, working-class heroine who oozed folksy provincialism with the naturalness of Lyndon Johnson in the same breath as she cheered her Hillary Clintonesque assault on the “glass ceiling.” Yes, here she was—clinging to her guns, her religion, and her babies, and saying, and apparently believing, all the wrong things."

"The young feminist Jessica Grose, writing on the popular website Jezebel just after the Republican convention, was—well, we’ll let her describe it: “When Palin spoke on Wednesday night, my head almost exploded from the incandescent anger boiling in my skull. . . . What I feel for her privately could be described as violent, nay, murderous, rage.” Grose’s readers left more than 700 comments, according to the late New York Sun, including one from a reader who wanted to “vomit with rage.” Other haters damned Palin as a traitor to her sex or an “insult to women,” as Judith Warner spat in the New York Times. “Turncoat bitch!” the comedian Sandra Bernhard railed in a performance caught on YouTube. “You whore in your cheap ****ing . . . cheap-ass plastic glasses and your hair up!” Writing on a Washington Post blog, Wendy Doniger, a Hinduism specialist at the University of Chicago Divinity School, topped them all: Palin’s “greatest hypocrisy is in her pretense that she is a woman.”

Why are they mad that Sarah Palin and her followers of strong independent conservative women are moving up in ranks in politics? isnt this what they wanted?

People fear her because she's an unqualified moron and there are people dumb enough to vote for her. It has nothing to do with her gender, I'd hate her just as much if she had a penis.

    1. Don't care
    2. Don't care
    3. Don't care
    4. She's completely unqualified to be a politician and it has nothing to do with the above 3 or her gender.

Why would liberals not like a conservative political candidate?

    Hmmm...

Why would liberals not like a conservative political candidate?

Wow Din. That is a toughie.

A lot of people don't want to admit the truth in this article. Just like many blacks fighting for black rights, gays fighting for gay rights, many women fighting for women's rights only want to see women succeeding if they do it in the RIGHT way. How many black conservatives get called Uncle Tom's because of their political views? How many homosexual conservatives can't let their political feelings be known to their gay friends?

Fear, intimidation, etc. are all used in these groups to limit freedom and limit the free expression of people like them. Anyone who doesn't see that, isn't paying attention.

I love how the second post in this thread basically ignores the entire article and essentially suggests the article and subsequent comments don't exist in his reality. Just puts his fingers in his ears and ignores the facts in front of him.

I'll await your list of black conservatives who were called Uncle Tom. I'll also take your list of HomoCons.

    Errrm…
I think you've got it head over arse there.
    It goes more like this:
How many homosexual conservatives can't let their gay feelings be known to their political friends?

Gay conservatives aren't too uncommon. It's gay Republicans that are blasphemous because the party is openly discriminant against them.

I wonder what Sarah Palin's Army of Strong Women think about the far more successful, intelligent and much better regarded Hillary Clinton.

I had to run, literally, to my computer to respond to this before work. You may remember me from my original, boring screen name, StevenSteven123. I'm the usually left-leaning guy who does see things from both points of view and who has taken your side a few times here. I just need to clear something up... The part of your post I quoted, what groups are you referring to? Just liberal political action groups or ALL political groups.

If you're going to make that claim, why don't you put your money where your mouth is and back it up with sources instead of attacking someone else for doubting it?

Ahhh... good to know it's you. Always good to have left-leaning members here that are still willing to listen, appreciate, consider, and occasionally agree with the opposing view.

Definitely not just liberal political action groups. Many political groups do this. I do however think that these groups are some of the worst anti-conservative offenders out there and deserve to be called-out as such. The hate and vitriol laid upon the more conservative members of these groups is quite sad.

I didn't see a denial. I saw someone calling your bluff.

So come on then. Show your sources or look like a fool. Your choice.

    Right Wing fear of Hilary

No. You'd have to pretty dense to not understand that they don't want an ignorant, right wing, woman who thinks parts of the country are un-American because they don't agree with her.

And don't you remember the right wing hatred for Hillary years back?

The difference is... they hate her because of her politics and her personality. Not because she's a 'woman with the wrong views'. Individuals in feminist groups hate Palin because she's an empowered woman who doesn't know her place. Individuals in Black advocacy groups hate Steele because he's a black man who doesn't know his place. Individuals in gay advocacy groups hate 'homocons' because they're gays who dare to vote for conservative causes.

What I find strange about this topic is that after John McCain named Sarah Palin as his running mate, something strange happened. There was a loss of some conservative, female support. This is a personal anecdote, so I don't have a cite, but this is what I saw. Many of my friends and my wife's friends are conservatives. Some of the women were very put off by her, and elected not to vote for reasons that I, as a liberal, didn't agree with. (e.g. she has young children)

Anyway, I think Sarah Palin as a person may be wonderful, I don't know her. On the other hand, I disagree with her politics and her positions on issues. That has nothing to do with her gender.
