I couldn't even sudo so I pressed C while booting with the Tiger DVD. Went into the Password Utility and set a password for root (System Administrator). Now when the login screen appears I have an extra user called "Other..."

I want to disable root, but have the ability to sudo in terminal. How do I get this and lose the extra user on the Login Window win OS X starts up

"Other" shows up because you enabled root. If you disable root, "Other" will disappear. To disable root, go to NetInfo Manager and click on the Security pull-down and choose "Disable Root User".

FYI, you don't need root enabled to use sudo in the CLI.

Thanks!

[EDIT]Interesting thing was I had to authenticate, enable root, then disable root to get it to disappear from the Login window. Appreciate the lead.
