New Mac Mini Server here. Currently have 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 (2GBx2) but would like to have 8GBx2 or 16GBx2. I heard back in January the memory was super expensive. 1/2 a year later what is it like? There are now 16GB modules right? Or was it 8GB modules?

Where the the best prices and which brands should I avoid?

    Thanks

No and these are desktop modules. They wouldn't fit.

Oh I thought Mini's were considered desktops. Darn. Wonder how long the wait will be.

They are but all Macs except for the Mac Pro take notebook memory.
I'd say in the fall you'll start to see 16 GB modules surface (for around $1000+ each). Then by this time next year you'll see them for under $200. DDR4 should be out by then as well.

It's ok I can still order from places in North America. I'm from there so at the worst case I can have it shipped to my parents.

I did find these Amazon Japan links though. All good reviews. One even used it for their Mac Mini. What do you think? Surely many of these brands in Asia couldn't be far off from the brands we usually buy in NA.

This review of Silicon Power's SSD seems to be favorable if that's any indication of the brand rep.

No Silicon Power reviews on NewEgg but they do carry the brand. Most people in North America go for the other brands like OCz, OWC, Crucial etc so I don't know if you can say the SP brand is bad because it doesn't have any reviews.

Do you think I should buy this brand on Amazon Japan and go for it? Good thing about Amazon is they return anything.
