I'm looking for a simple sleeve to put my MacBook Air in that allows it to fit with a hard case on. It has to allow the computer to slide in and out easily - I do not want one that is tight and is a struggle to remove the computer from.

It must be: zipper-less and have a flap that closes (no open top sleeves).

Please only suggest a sleeve that you've tried yourself with a 2020 MacBook Air with hard case on. I've had to return sleeves to Amazon that people guessed would fit the computer with a case on but did not.

Thanks

Im looking for a hard case that fits which one do you use?

Can't really say how good it is as far as how it holds up since I've only been using it for a few days, but it fits and looks decent. It's more of a dark gray than a black. Nothing to write home about, just a basic plastic case. The Speck hard case I used for my old MacBook Air turned out to be junk that started having chunks fall off by itself (never bumped or dropped the Mac), so only time will tell. The screen protector that comes with it is decent. The keyboard cover looks nice, but doesn't allow the backlight from the keyboard to be seen, so I'm not using it.

Please don't use hard cases on macbooks.
1) First of all, it will eventually break your hinge in 2-3 years, depending on how much often you open the lid.
2) It is bulky then why buy beautiful design laptop to hide it under cover.
3) It looks ugly.
4) Macbooks don't get so much of scratches without it.

No thanks. Been using them for years and that's what I prefer.

1) Never happened to me in the roughly one dozen MacBooks I've had. I have also never read any widespread issues with this the many years I've been on MacRumors. Highly doubt Apple would be selling cases at all if this were true.

2) It's not bulky whatsoever.

3) I don't care what anyone thinks about what's ugly and what's not. I don't buy my computer to stare at the outside of it or have other people stare and be envious at the aesthetics of my computer. Besides, I only use it at home anyway.

4) When I sell my Macs they are always in pristine condition and I get top dollar. I have had mishaps before without a case and learned my lesson.

In fact, one thing I don't like about the hard cases is that with the newer MacBook designs with the metal hinges it leaves an area of the aluminum exposed.

Please try not to veer too much off the topic of my thread. I'm just looking for insight into sleeve recommendations, not a discussion on hard cases. I guess I shouldn't have replied to the person who asked about my case.

Hi guys,

Good question. To be honest, I buy my cases on a french website which delivers to the US very quickly. I bought my first case on their shop 3 years ago and i can still use it even though i bought 4 other cases since then ^^

Here is the link to the website:

I have many older Waterfield sleeves and gear pouches and bags, even a few wallets. The quality is top notch and all my outdated stuff still looks like new. You pay for the quality but to me its not outrages.

sfbags.com made in San Fransisco USA.

Just a little update: the hardshell case has been popping off and creaking (I realized the left clip on the bottom shell is barely holding itself to the Mac) - re-read some reviews for this case and also all of the other hard-shells on Amazon and they all say the same thing: none of the hard-shells that are up actually fit the 2020 MacBook Air properly because apparently the 2020 Air is ever so slightly thicker than the previous 2019 & 2018 models.

So, now, I'm looking for another hardshell case that was made specifically for the 2020 Air (not one that these companies says fit the 2018, 2019, and 2020 model because all those are are versions made for the old models that you can squeeze your 2020 Air into but that don't actually fit properly). If anyone actually knows of a hardshell case that was made specifically for the new 2020 Air please let me know.

Haven't gotten around to checking further into a sleeve, but I appreciate the two recommendations suggested here and would also appreciate any additional recommendations.

Yes I ordered this, I have many Waterfield products from bags to sleeves to wallets to pouches for the last 7+ years. They all still look new but the size of my computers changed for the sleeves. I still have a wonderful looking 11" MBA sleeve, just no 11"

I live in Michigan and I have no affiliation with SFbags I just love their product and support. USA!

I got my new Waterfield sleeve and gear pouch today. They are a class act quality product.

Have you managed to find any cases that fit? I've got an incase 'dots' hardshell on my 2020 air and my wife has an incase woolenex on hers- both just about fit but I've noticed a crack on the underside of my shell coming from one of the feet. Possibly due to the size putting undue stress on it.

Tried a generic one from amazon today that said it was for the 2020 air but that wouldn't clip on. Got one on the way from ebay- it's a clear finish rather than matt/satin but there seems to be very little around at the moment.

Unfortunately not- the case I had on the Air started cracking like you mention. That said, I switched to a 2020 13” MacBook Pro and I’m having the same problem trying to find something for it.

Have the pros increased in thickness as well then? i thought it was just the 2020 airs
