I'm looking to buy a 2012 27" iMac. I have a few questions before I buy one.

are there any known issues?

I'm looking to use an ssd in a usb 3.0 enclosure as a boot drive. will that work reliably?

how many ram slots does it have? I want 16GB total, how can I achieve that the most efficiently?

how many external displays can I hook up to it?

More info. 21.5" or 27"? Latter suggested with memory access door on rear. Yes SSD will work great via USB3, if a little slow to boot. Make sure it has USB3 as some early 2012 models reportedly only came with USB2. No. issues other than now an eight year old computer

Hi, I have a 2012 iMac (specs in the signature) and I did what you intend to. I have three external SSD with 4 different versions iOS: High Sierra, Sierra, El Capitan and Mojave. And I kept Mountain Lion that came bundled with the iMac when I bought it. I maxed the ram to 24 and it's still running fine fine fine. Never never had a single problem. Goes through PSHop, Lightroom and Aperture (yes) and MS Elements as fast as can be. My only complaint is the monitor that has never been that crisp and luminous.

Max Ram the 2012 supports in 32 GB - and you have 4 slots. It's the PC3 12800 @ 1600 Mhz. Coincidently, I'm looking to sell my 2012 27inch iMac as well. (Austin, TX). Good luck on your hunt! I believe it can drive a second display via Thunderbolt.

Please PM me if you decide to sell it!
