As of today, Aug 1, 2018, there are 39 MacBooks on Apple's refurb website. Twice as many as yesterday. Wondering if these are going to get snapped up by the buying public, or if folks are going to wait and see what new MacBooks are coming for 2018. What would you do, buy or wait?

Funny as in the UK there were only two Macbooks, and three MB Pro's on refurb store today. Normally there are 20 to 30 in total.

they are going to multiply and swarm just like those whytewalkers on game of thrones.
if i were to get one, i would nick-name that "darakari!"

Get it. Doubt the next update will be worth the extra money. The 2017 one's are really powerful machines.

I agree, but the next update might have True Tone and the improved keyboard. And those two things alone might make the next 12" MacBook worth waiting for, IMO.

Personally I would wait for the updates, we are talking either September or October, so a month or two away.

I’m due an upgrade from my 2011 MacBook Pro and I’m waiting to see what Apple announce either next month or in October, the 12” MacBook may get the new style keyboard and True Tone. There is also going to be a 13” MacBook Air replacement which could very well be part of the MacBook family, so yea I’m waiting.

My grandson starts college next week. I just bought him a refurbed 2017 MacBook. If figure Apple did whatever magic they to the keyboard while it was in the shop.

Granddaughter has had a 2016 refurbed MB for a year and half. She's had no difficulties whatsoever; she loves it.

that's why I like refurbs because an Apple technician has gone over it tooth and nail, and fixed/updated whatever needs fixing.

I don't know about the US Refurb process, but here in Canada the refurbs are handled by a 3rd party company on Apple's behalf. Not that they are any less good, just wanted to mention.

First I'd say that I buy Apple refurbs whenever possible. The cost savings is worth it imo.

But your understanding that an "Apple technician has gone over it tooth and nail, and fixed/updated whatever needs fixing" is misleading if it implies it is somehow better. At best, it means the computer is as good as new. Sometimes, rarely, it means the refurb is slightly worse than new.

For example, Apple technicians have been shown to do a pretty bad job at re-soldering small things from time to time.

As another example, Apple has been known to use water-damages boards in refurbs.

As I said, I think the savings is worth the risk; especially when the warranty is the same. But don't go thinking that refurbs are some kind of quality control panacea.

I just ordered the base 2017 MacBook (Rose Gold) from Best Buy for $950 - it was an open box item and certified by the Geek Squad. Was this a good deal? I have a new X1C, but miss MacOS sometimes. This will be a companion computer. Once I receive it I will post the condition it came in, etc.
