I have it for sitting around the house. I have one in my office. I didn't like it before because it was so under powered. but now I love the form factor. It needs a beefier chip and then it would be the best laptop. had it with me instead of the 16 today. love the weight for commute.
also needs to be able to hook up 2 displays. I was not able to hook up the XDR and LG5k at the same time. one or the other. I don't see why that would be. apparently its a thing.

under powered?

Glad I returned my M1 Mac mini.

So many people out here boasting how fast and powerful the M1 chip is.

I like AMD chips.

Many will probably turn to Hackintosh's If Apple silicon is so under powered.
I mean I can't do gpu accelerated plugins on the m1air. So it's pretty wimpy compared to my 16 5600m and mpro 71.

And I cannot do a lot of my machine learning on any Mac running MacOS because it doesn't support my Nvidia 3070 boards.

Every platform has limitations for certain use cases and users. For most people, the M1 Air is a fantastic general-purpose computer

I just picked up the base model today. I got tired of my old 2019 13-inch MBP, which was just hot and noisy. I LOVE the new/old scissor keyboard, forgot how much I missed it. I wanted 16GB ram and all that but realistically, for what I'll use it for, it's enough.

In the last month I've tried the Mini and almost went for the iMac but turns out I still like the mobility of the laptop so ended on this while I see what Apple comes up with in the next year or so.

M1 air is the best apple laptop right now, IMO. Nice machine!!

I traded in my gold m1 airs for dark Grey today. I didn't like the color at all.

I loved my gold M1 I bought for work so much that I bought an identical gold M1 for personal use. 😂 So nice to finally let go of the drab grey. We’re all different I guess. 😊

I imagine that when the Wright brother came back to earth after that first flight, there were probably people standing around that asked, "Why did you deliberately make the damned thing to only haul one person? A hundred passengers and a three thousand mile range is what we need."

The M1 is the first edition for the Mac. M^x is coming eventually but I doubt that Apple just feeds in a batch of punched cards and the machines start shoving out chips with 256gb, 8 TB ports and a 3 fan GPU shrunk down to a 1 inch die. Apple research engineers are good, but not that good.

Anyway, raving aside. I originally bought both both the M1 Mini and the Air to try and they work great. Kept the Mini which replaced my desktop iMac and love it. The Air was super too, but I use a 2017 Air and like it better, for no reason that I can give. Since I only use it for Scrivener and occasional Safari, horsepower is not a requirement. Sold it to a student. If this non-retina favorite dies, I will replace it with an M1 (or 2 or 3) Air that will be far overkill, but will be fine. That said, I miss the fingerprint sensor.

Bought a very basic M1 MacBook Air when the prices came down to 849.00.

Could not be happier, to be honest.

With past Apple purchases, I couldn't get past the temptation to load them up. For example, I'm typing on a 27" iMac with 32 gb of RAM that I have no earthly use for. LOL....

But reviewers helped me decide in this case that the very bottom of the line base version was all I needed.

It has been a couple of weeks and it seems to have been the right thing to do! :)

I'm exactly with you except for the reviewers... Although you are right - many YouTubers recommended the base model (maybe 512gb) I went with the 16gb model as I'm paranoid about futureproofing... Enjoy your new m1.
