I was waiting to see if there was a chance they released a lesser pro MBP for less than 2K, but figured they wouldn't, and they didn't. I actually just bought a refurbed M1 MBA instead, so happy to join the MBA camp.

Different from prior MBP's, the average Joe really doesn't need these newer MBP's unless the person just has money to burn or is truly using it for work. The M1 Macs are responsive and have enough power for day to day, which is all I need mine for.

The MBA camp's day will come with the redesign and new silicon next year. I'm sure it will also inherit some features from the MBP line.

I love the 14” MBP but I agree with you 100%. I literally just picked up an M1 MBA Friday and I love it. I use it primarily for real estate and I’m not pushing the boundaries of needing more than what my fully loaded MBA has. If they come out next year with a revamped MBA then I might be interested in upgrading at that time.

I think next generation will be based on coloured machines, like the iMacs. Possibly white keyboards like back in the day of the older white MacBooks. Doubt the new Airs will get the notch, as I dont think they will use a high end screen for the airs.

I’ve been waiting for the MBP release as my old MBP died. I’ve been using my iPad Pro for about a year now.
The new MBP looks nice but I really don’t need that much computing power. Leaning towards buying a MBA.
The only thing that is tempting is the screen on the MBP and 1000 nit brightness.
MBA owners….how do you feel about your screen (400 nit)?
Would I be disappointed with the screen after using an iPad Pro for so long now?

One thing is looking good at this point is ‘if’ the notch is coming to the Air line as rumoured, I doubt it will have white bezels. Just a thought.

In comparison to the iPad Pro the Air’s screen does look quite dated, it still a great screen don’t get me wrong but for me it just looks quite meh…

The new MacBook Pros look terrific, and the performance is incredible (as is the display, etc), but I would have a hard time justifying that much money for a laptop myself. I'll probably get a new Air if and when the time comes to replace my wife's MacBook (circa 2015 model).

My guess is the Air will likely remain pretty limited in terms of ports. This will help differentiate the two lines.

I wasn’t thrilled with the look of the new MBPs. I suspect the Air will follow suit with the notch and slightly thinner bezels. Throw in some colour and call it a day. I do wonder if the taper will be removed in favour of a boxier base.

Personally, I'm thrilled with my M1 refurbed MBA. There's nothing I do that requires the power of the MBP and definitely not the cost. I'm really wondering what Apple's thinking with two high-end MBP's? Are there that many people who need that much power....:confused::confused::confused:

I think they will sort of combine the Air and entry level pro… we will probably get the boxier design, definately slimmer and lighter… if the notch is coming I suspect it will stay with black bezels and will likely remain in silver, space grey and gold… if not I can definitely see white bezels coming with the colours… I can’t see them having white bezels and a notch though, and I also can’t see colours coming if the bezels are staying black either… but who knows…

I also think it’s possible that the Touch Bar will feature on the Air (as it is more a consumer gimmick, which appeals to general users/shoppers), I also expect a price bump to $1199 with the possibility of the M1 Air remaining in the line up at $899 and the entry pro getting put on scrap heap…

So it will be:

M1 Air - $899
M2 Air - $1199
M1 Pro 14” - $1999
M1 Pro 16” - $2499

Even looking at that though there is a clear pricing space between the Air and Pro so we could potentially see a larger sized Air also…

I don't miss anything in my Air that the weird new MacBook Pro brings. Well, except for the SD card slot maybe. I was actually useing it in my old Air and I'm using SD card with my Mac Mini now. If the rumors are true Air will get a similar design with a notch so I guess this is my last Apple laptop for a long time.

I think the Touchbar is gone forever... at least I hope so....

I think the new MacBook Pros are incredible Pro machines. I for one wouldn't use it it to its full advantage of the odd video I edit every couple weeks if that. Most of what I do is light photo editing and I do that professionally but nothing that requires that performance of an M1 Pro or M1 Max.

Plus I'd have to spend twice as much to get the 2TB ssd and 16gb of memory that I got on my m1 air refurb. I wouldn't have been able to add a 27" monitor like I did with my current setup.

I'm really excited for what they do with the Mac Pro desktop for performance next year. LOL! Cannot believe these performance gains Apple is making.
