Greetings, I just wanted to post to introduce my OS X app, Dropshelf. It's a drag and drop helper app.

You drag items to the edge of the screen (anywhere you like — there is no fixed drop zone) and a shelf slides out. You can drop files, text clippings and URLs.

It's $4.99 on the Mac App Store and there is a free fully functional demo on the home page.

    Oh, now THAT'S COOL!!

I never thought about using the drag and drop helper apps I've tried out like that. I just thought they were for grouping files to then drag. Makes much more sense to use it as a productivity tool to use with a writing app, spreadsheet, or whatever.

Thanks! I know you're plugging your app, but that was an eye opener!

Thanks for the responses everyone. If you have tried it and have any suggestions, bug reports, or just just tell me what you like/dislike about it, please don't hold back. Either on this forum or feel free to email/tweet me.

:) While I'm plugging the app: it's just gone on sale as part of this week's Two Dollar Tuesday, so it's only $1.99 right now.

Got it. Nice app. Going to come in handy for my web & graphic design work.

Maybe a small suggestion. Being able to put a tag, label or description along the edge of shelves to remind you of what is on a shelf would be handy. Especially when you have multiple shelves sitting along the edge.

    Thanks!

    settings

    1. i cant seem to be able to choose which side of the screen the shelf can appear on.

the settings don't seem to work for this

it defaults to the middle left on my 13' mac-book air
and to the bottom right on my 27' iMac

    2. is there a way to clear items that would have been put on the shelf?

When you drag an item to the edge of the screen, a shelf will slide out wherever you like. It can be left, right, wherever you choose — just not the sides with the Dock or the Menu bar. When you click "New Shelf", then new shelf will slide out wherever you last made a shelf by dragging. (I hope that makes sense.)

For (2), do you mean you would like to use the shelf to actually store the files (rather than keep an alias to them, as currently) and remove them from where they came from? If so — no, but I've been thinking about adding this.

Thanks for the suggestion! I have added this to my ideas list, and will give it some thought.

    1. thanks for clarifying. i bought it just yesterday so still discovering the possibilities

    2. something of that sort. more like "clearing the storage history" as opposed to always opening a new shelf.......just thinking

You're welcome, and thank you for sharing your thinking. (And thanks for buying the app!) I really like it when people tell me their ideas, and tell me about the way they use my apps. Otherwise, it's just me sitting here at my Mac thinking stuff up on my own :)

Having Popclip is a plus as their is a extension that lets you use Popclip to send to Dropshelf.

I'm not sure whether I need it or not, but I'll have a try anyway.
