Mac Applications - Quit Unexpectedly

I have noticed, that just recently, some of my apple own apps like iMovie and, even System Preferences (When in the Desktop and Screensaver area) always crash unexpectedly

I bought a mac for its reliability, but I am really disappointed in the amount of times that Apple applications crash on me, is there any way to stop this?

Sounds like it is simply a corrupted series of preferences. Use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions, and that should help.

whelp, i don't know how to run programs in verbose on a mac.

I guess you can try looking for errors in your logs if imovie or system pref. logs in one of those files. (you can use "console" in utilities folder to see your logs)
