.mac howto get it to work with my own domain?

I can not find any information out on apples site on how to get this to work or how long does it take. just curious if anyone has done this yet, and how long did it take the DNS servers to update, does apple have an easy interface to change it over?

Yeah I was wondering that too. I don't know if you buy the domain name with .mac or if you can use your own domain name from another hosting service.

But now in the newly improved .mac you can use your own personal domain.

But you'll lose Email at your domain. :(

You can probably just point your A (web) record to .Mac and keep hosting your Email with another provider. I only understand about 1/10th of how that stuff works, so don't make any decisions based on my B.S.

Who cares, I use hotmail as my main e-mail anyway.... DON'T HURT ME!!! Sorry, I've just been using it since high school! But to be fair I did sign up with hotmail BEFORE Microsoft bought it. I don't want to change my e-mail... :(

The biggest limitation of .Mac hosting for your personal domain is that it appears to require you to use that accursed "www" for web traffic. There's no way to just use the bare domain as many of us would prefer to use.

Agree that it wouldn't preclude you from continuing to handle mail for the domain, since you can continue to point the MX records in DNS to your mail server.

From there, go into your account preferences in .Mac. Select the button referring to domain name, and type in your domain name. Go ahead and hit continue so that it's all set up on the .mac end.

Now, go to your registrar's account (where you bought the domain from) and find some settings referring to your CNAME (alias). You want www.yourdomain.com to point to "web.mac.com.". Make sure you don't make the silly mistake of trying to get it to point to "web.mac.com.yourdomain.com" like I did :rolleyes:.

I got everything working today.

Is there anyway we can change the CNAMES to work with any of the .mac mail? I've got the option for IMAP & POP...
