Anyone using any of the M1 based computers with this monitor?
If so, does everything function properly with USB-C or DP 1.4?

Hey ah sorry no answer (yet). But I have that monitor too, and getting an m1 mbp in 1-2 weeks. So I can let you know how it goes.

Thanks. I just ordered that monitor today. Do you like yours?

I really like it. I was coming from a 2013 27 inch iMac, the bigger screen and it being 4k has been really nice/liberating. The colours are really nice too if you get the settings right, and so is the hdr with video content produced for it (though I know it's at the lower end of the standard). Though bear in mind I'm not a vid/photo editor.

The biggest downside is the speakers, which are crap, but I like to use my own desktop speakers anyway. Would be nice if there was usb-c PD too, but that would generally double the cost, at which point I'd rather get a good thunderbolt 3 dock with PD.

Most of all it was a great price here in the UK, considering the other 4k 32 inch monitors that are out there.

Thanks. B&H Photo inUSA had a sale on it today for $100 off. I have been researching 32“ monitors for about a month; in the end, without seeing them, one has to just pick one. They also had the Mac Air M1 16GB 1TB at $150 off sale (preorder) so I ordered both and will cancel my MacBook Pro Apple order, using the $250 saved towards the monitor.

So I have the M1 mb, which is is really nice compared to my old hot slow mb. And yes, it worked straight away with the display using USB-C at 60Hz at full resolution, really enjoying the setup. Some things I have noticed though is when it's plugged in, the MB thinks it's plugged into power but doesn't charge, (to be expected as the display doesn't support PD, but not sure if that affects anything performance/battery wise). Also System Information seems to think the display is 6k.

So I'm in the same boat where I am about to purchase both an M1 MB Pro and the BenQ EW3280U monitor. However I keep reading so many conflicting things. First I'm pretty sure the monitor has PD up to 60 watts. I've also now read a number of times about the M1's USB-C not displaying at 60Hz (people are saying it only outputs to 30Hz with the BenQ EW3280U) but your experience seems to be in contrast to this.

Yeah, it is a bit confusing. I have one of these monitors incoming and I hope the issues get worked out.
The only thing I can think of is that these folks were using different cabling and/or hookup methods and that some work and some dont.

I have a BenQ EW3280U monitor and mac mini for a few weeks now.
It works on HDMI, but so far after support from apple and Benq it does not work on USBC (although I have seen people who do have same setup and it works).
The cables and mac mini are fine, so I'm waiting for BENQ to check certification/Calibration of m1 devices with this monitor.

I got this monitor and can confirm 4K @ 60Hz is not working on both USB-C and DisplayPort. There where some rumors that is was fixed in Mac OS 11.1 20C69. So I tried it but it doesn't fix it.

Someone else more news about it?

Since they couldn’t give me a ship date, I canceled my BenQ order and instead purchased a Dell 32” 4K.

Anyone had a chance to try the Mac M1 with BenQ EW3280U and something like SwitchResX to see if that allows you to have 4K @ 60Hz using USB-C?

Anyone see a fix for this yet. I just updated my Mac book Air m1 to 11.2.2 and still no 4K 60hzt. I tried USB C and even Display Port and still only get 30. Is there some kind of update to the monitor or is it all on apples side to fix this? Part of me is tempted to get a new monitor. I currently just got the Benq ew2780u.

Same here, still no 4K@60Hz on USB-C with EW3280U.

Test results.

HDMI>HDMI : 60Hz but can't select 3008x1692 Hi-DPI mode.
USB-C>HDMI: Works fine 60Hz@3008x1692 Hi-DPI mode.
USB-C>DisplayPort : Nothing works with any cable that I have.
USB-C>USB-C : No signal.
Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adaptor A2119 (HDMI Port) : Works fine 60Hz@3008x1692 Hi-DPI mode.

I have a BenQ EW2380U connected to a Mac mini M1 using USB-C to DisplayPort and it works at 60Hz in native resolution or scaled 3008 x 1692 or any other scaled resolution for that matter.

RE my EW3280U not working on Mac mini USB C

My USBC port failed completely 2 weeks ago, so I took it to apple for repair and I took my EW3280U. I confirmed that the monitor worked fine on an M1 Mac book. So the problem is definitely with the Mac mini. When I got the repaired Mac mini back (apple checked the usb ports closed loop) I tried my monitor again. Still not working at all.

Meanwhile BENQ contacted me and also confirmed the Mac mini does not drive the EW3280U correctly. There is a timing problem. There is a firmware fix to work around the faulty apple software, but I am going to have to send the monitor back to get the firmware upgrade.

I decided to not wait for the apple fix, because they have known about this problem for 6 months and done nothing. I don't feel like waiting another 6 months not know.

I also contacted BenQ and indeed they confirmed that USB-C to USB-C doesn’t work. They said Apple should fix this or maybe they will have a firmware update.

However, from my own testing, USB-C to DisplayPort or HDMI works fine at 60Hz with RGB.
My monitor manufacturing is from February 2021.

and I got it back from BENQ after the firmware update and it still does not work on a Mac mini using USBC to USBC. Seems like we will have to wait on apple for this one.

I have the EW3280U with Mac Mini M1 and have been having issues with the refresh rate only being 30hz. I tried USB-C to DP from the Mini's TB ports, I tried a couple of different Thunderbolt docks and always the same (whilst my other 4k Monitors worked fine). I was aware of the Firmware fix for USB-C coming, so contacted them, but they said DisplayPort should work and the fix is only for using the USB-C input on the monitor. It is not related to using a USB-C to DP cable. So I tried another cable, but still no joy.

Today they came back to me and said that there is a firmware update that should fix the DP issue and I either need to return the monitor for it to be done or they will do a door-step swap with a refurbished monitor with the firmware applied. I will probably go for the latter. Fingers crossed it will fix the problem!
