Hi All,

I am thinking of purchasing the monitor mentioned below but not sure if the HDMI 2.0 output of the I Mac M1 will be able to display the resolution of 2560 x 1440 if connected to the monitor using its HDMI 1.4 input? Or failing this can I use an HDMI 2.0 to Display Port 1.2 to achieve this?

Any help here is appreciated.

ViewSonicVX32762K mhd32" QHD IPS 75Hz Monitor
Resolution 2560 x 1440
HDMI Ports: 2 x HDMI 1.4
DisplayPort In: 1 x DisplayPort 1.2
1 x Mini DisplayPort 1.2

Regards

Yes, it will work fine. HDMI specs are backwards compatible no worries. Currently have it connected to an older monitor that certainly isn't 2.0 lol.

The EDID of the display tells the OS what modes it supports. For HDMI, it also states the maximum data rate that it supports (340MHz for HDMI 1.4, 600MHz for HDMI 2.0). With this info, the OS can decide what modes to make available to the user. If you are somehow able to select a mode that the display does not support, it will just go black. You may be able to press escape or an arrow key or something to get back to a mode that is supported, or you can use screen sharing from another computer to change the mode, or restart.
