I bought the Samsung Odyssey OLED S32DG80 31.5" 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) 240Hz Smart Gaming Monitor recently for $1,000 to pair up with the new Mac mini. The display looked good in the store and the salesperson said it would work with a Mac mini. What do you think of the Samsung monitor compared to the Apple Studio Display, besides the large price difference?

Anyway, after pricing out a Mac mini with an Apple keyboard and Apple trackpad it's only $150 less than a similarly spec'd 14" MacBook Pro!?! I can't believe the difference is so small that I wonder if I missed something??

I almost never need a laptop to use out and about, but if I bought the 14" MacBook Pro I would in effect have another 14" monitor to go with the Samsung 31.5" main monitor. And if I skipped the purchase of an external Apple keyboard and Apple trackpad, how would you step up the Samsung monitor? Elevated it above the MacBook or have it off to the left, if you're right-handed? . . . or would you still purchase an external Apple keyboard and Apple trackpad, and have the MacBook set up to the left?

The cable (USB-C, HDMI, Display port, Thunderbolt) is going to be the KEY to getting the most from your new monitor. Buy the best (check the specs) that you can afford. PS: Using a 8K cable in a 4K setup won't make it better.

The Samsung has 2 ports: 240 Hz using DisplayPort 1.4and 240 Hz using HDMI 2.1, which is better to use DisplayPort 1.4 or HDMI 2.1?

If it had Thunderbolt, that would be the best?

I read that HDMI 2.2 in out now, think about “Future Proofing” your setup. Which ever cable you choose insure that it is “Certified”. They will bought max out your setup.
