All of a sudden my macbook pro won't recognize my Lacie hd. I changed f/w cable and plugged external hd into an older mac but the icon does not show up on either. The drive powers up when connected either mac's but still on icon. How can I get the data off of the drive?????

He meant that the drive powers up when connected to either Mac, but there's still no icon.
Sounds like the drive may be shot if it's powering up but not mounting. As Dave Braine asked, find out if it shows up in Disk Utility first, and if it does you may be able to recover the data.
