I have recently had a new disc drive put into my MacBook Pro. It doesnt make any sound on load up and makes little sound when loading a disc into the drive. When loading discs it makes a rather load scratching sound.

Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Hard to say really - is the sound different form the original Super Drive's sound? Those Super Drives make some sounds when you put in a disc.

Would be great if you could share a sound bite.

I only got about a minute in, but all of those sounds seem normal to me.

Sounds the same as the 8 or so MBPs I've heard.

Cheers for all the feedback. It's just dramatically different from what my older one sounded like. But i don't understand why it refuses some discs.
