So I was looking around at Craigslist in the surrounding areas from me, as well as looking for apartments in the Louisville area and decided to check up on their computer section, thinking "hey, if I am looking at apartments in that area anyway... maybe i could pick up some deals on craigslist while i'm there" Now I was just looking on accessories and stuff, don't have any intention to buy this but ....

Anyway, I stumbled on it and thought this was cool.

I don't know much about the pre powerbook days... considering i'm only 23, but I thought this was kinda neat. How rare are these actually? Is this guy just trying to sell something for a lot more then it's worth to some gullible buyer or is it really rare?

I would assume it would be, working that is.

I would think $300 is a little too high for a Mac portable. The Mac Portable was the first portable Macintosh, before the Powerbook. It weighed a ton and has the unfortunate design flaw of requiring a battery to power on--that's right, even if it's plugged in to the wall, it won't power on if there isn't a GOOD battery.

So if this unit really does have a new Lead-Acid battery, I would think that is a plus. But be aware that when that battery dies, you aren't going to be able to use the machine anymore.

Here's the Low End Mac page on it:
