MacMAME & X-Arcade

I am trying to use the X-Arcade Solo with Mac MAME on G4 imac running OSX 10.4.9. The control does not respond in default mode which is permanently programmed with standard MAME inputs for control. X-Arcade tech support is less than helpful in regard to this matter...I'm thinking they do not know much about Mac's. Anyone have similar issues....were you able to resolve them?
